Youth Contest Submission Requirements

Entry:
An “entry” means ONE individual story. All entries must be your original work and previously unpublished. If your story is accepted for publication prior to judging, it will be disqualified. Entries not meeting requirements will not be judged.

Submission Requirements:

• Email submissions ONLY. No exceptions.
• Completely fill out the Official Electronic Online Submission and send it with your story. Be sure to indicate your age group on the entry form.
• If you have trouble with the online entry form, download a contest entry form in.rtf format you can type on. The .RTF file will download to your computer’s “Downloads.” Save and complete, then email the completed entry and your story to amwcontestyouth@gmail.com.
• There is NO entry fee for the youth contest.

Manuscript:

• Entries must be double-spaced, in 12 pt. Times Roman or Courier, black ink, 1-inch margins (.doc, .docx, .rtf formats only, NO PDFs!).
• Do not include your name on any part of the manuscript.  Judging is blind.
• Story title must appear on every page—upper left-hand corner.
• Total word count—2500 words or less—placed on upper right-hand corner of page 1 only.
• Consecutive page numbers must appear on every page—upper right-hand corner beginning on page 2.
• No photos or artwork of any kind.

Deadline: 

• Your entry and story must be received on or before MIDNIGHT MST February 1. You may also submit via email. You will receive an email confirmation of receipt of your entry.
• Entries received after the deadline date will not be judged.
• Entries will not be returned. We delete them after the contest to protect your intellectual property.
• Contestants retain the copyright to their work. We do, however, require that we be allowed to publish the winning entries on our website in PDF format; stories will remain on our website until the next year's winners are published.
• Winners will be notified when judges are finished. Judges’ comments will be sent to everyone.
