December Meeting: The Shortest Mystery!

December Meeting:  Saturday, December 12th, 10am MST, Online

The Shortest Mystery!

Can you write a mystery story in 500 words or less? Of course, you can. You’re a mystery writer. That’s what we do.

This is your chance to show off.  Write a complete mystery, with a setup, a crime, a villain, a hero/heroine, and a solution. Two pages, double-spaced; no more than 500 words.

Can you do it in twelve days? Of course you can. Start now.

Bring your treasure to the meeting, and if you want to, you can read it for the group. It takes about 2 minutes to read a page, so we can only hear a limited number of them. We’ll give priority to shorter ones.  How about one page? (That’s actually a lot harder). Bonus points for a Holiday theme.

Bad Endings

In case we don’t get many, or any, story entries, we’ll also be ready to discuss bad endings.  What makes a bad ending bad?  (And what is a good one). Have you ever written a bad ending?  Why?  Bring examples from your favorite novels.  (Image: https://www.amazon.com/Bad-Endings-David-Bussell-ebook/dp/B00P2HVTGU)

AMW Needs Board Members!

We’re looking for volunteers!  We need somebody to manage the membership and newsletter lists. Could that be you?  We’re also looking for a new treasurer to collect the dues and add them up. Are you a numbers person?  And we need somebody to gather the entries in our annual story contests (youth and adults). Contact amwcommschair@gmail.com.
