July 12, 10:00 a.m. Virtual Meeting
What's Your Favorite Flavor of Villain?
Debbie Burke may look like a cookie-baking grandma but underneath she has a conniving criminal mind.
Her new book is The Villain's Journey-How to Create Villains Readers Love to Hate.
On July 12, 2025, Debbie will introduce the Arizona Mystery Writers to "Different Flavors of Villains," including charming and irresistible, femme fatales and mean girls, betrayers/turncoats, Robin Hoods, shape-shifters, avenging angels, psychopaths, narcissists, serial killers, and more. Do you want to write mysteries and thrillers that keep readers up all night? The secret sauce is the Villain. Follow the journey of bad guys and girls who range from funny to fearsome to fanatical. Discover the cunning brains and dark secrets behind malice, mayhem, and murder. Build-a-Villain worksheets help you craft a character who rises from the page like Lord Vader. Take the journey...if you dare!
As a special treat for Arizona Mystery Writers, Debbie is holding a prize drawing. Before the meeting, everyone who signs up for her reading group at this link (https://www.debbieburkewriter.com/sign-up-for-mailing-list/) will be entered in the free drawing. The prize is a custom-crafted wooden pen (value $60). Winner can choose either the Deep Fake Sapphire pen or the Flathead Cherry pen.

Our meetings this summer (June, July, August) will be held virtually, from 10 to 11:30, with time for questions. There's no charge, but you may choose to send a voluntary $5 (or larger!) donation via Zelle or PayPal to amwtreasurer@gmail.com. The same link will serve all three meetings.
