Greetings! I’ll start out by apologizing for the length of the post, but there’s a few things I wanted to include today: Our Social Media, Member Listings/Announcements, and Information Links.
Our Social Media
Did you know we have a web presence in several places, including:
- Meetup.com: A great way to RSVP for our meetings! Great way to seek out other interest groups as well. http://www.meetup.com/Arizona-Mystery-Writers-of-Tucson/
- Facebook: With Facebook’s algorithms, even if you’ve liked/followed our page you are more likely to see our posts in your newsfeed if you like/comment on our posts (even just occasionally). We also get better “reach” for posts that are liked/commented on. (A number of you liked posts after I mentioned it at the last meeting, so thank you!) As always, you can just visit our page at https://www.facebook.com/ArizonaMysteryWriters
Also, if others post to our page, Facebook now pushes those posts off to the lower left, so check there for posts as well if you’re visiting our Facebook page.
- Twitter: We are now on Twitter! Links to meeting announcements are here, as well as information from other sources that we pass on through retweets. You can follow us or just read our timeline here: https://twitter.com/AMWtucson
Member Listings and Announcements
Check out our members’ bios and publications! You can find an alphabetical list of our member authors as a drop-down under members/member listings.
Are you a member? Do you want your bio and publications listed on the website (or to update information already there)? Here is the information on how to submit these materials.
Do you have a new publication announcement? Win an award? Tell us! Send me the information at amwcommschair@gmail.com and I’ll post it to our news section!
Informational Links
My goal is to do “link posts” regularly, sharing information I’ve found around the web that might be useful to your writing or promotional efforts. (I admit to being more connected to the science fiction and fantasy community, so some of these links come from that area, but the advice is generally good regardless of genre.) Here are a few to start with:
- How To Promote Yourself And Your Books On Social Media Without Feeling Like A Soul-Selling, Sleaze-Sucking Slime-Glob by Chuck Wendig (Chuck is sometimes swear-y, but has lots of great advice)
- How to write about sex without being boring by Charlie Jane Anders
- Speaking of swearing, this time in stories: Good Bad Language: a post about swearing by K.J. Charles
- The Tyranny of Motive by David Corbett – giving depth to characters’ motives. This is a bit “chewy,” a lot of information to digest, but I think overall it’s useful.
- And now for something a little lighter: The Care and Feeding of Writers by Julie Butcher-Fedynich
Were these links helpful? Have other insights on these subjects? Please feel free to comment below! Remember that your first comment here will need to be approved before it shows up, and while I’m attempting to do that in a timely way, I may not be able to stay right on top of things. Thanks!
Kelly, AMW Communications Chair
This is great information! Thanks!
I can’t believe the great work you have put in one this!
