Jake Jacobs Shares More on a Gambler's Life
Next Saturday we'll meet live--and via Zoom--and find out even more about the gambling life as told by professional gambler (and club president) Jake Jacobs.
Jake plans to cover some special techniques used to beat the casinos, as well as problems he and friends had with casinos who did not wish to be beaten, and disguises used to throw them off the scent. He also hopes to then have time to talk about freelancing for some of the legendary blackjack teams and playing overseas.
About our Speaker
AMW President Jake Jacobs has been a member of Arizona Mystery Writers since 2002. A native of the Chicago suburbs, he began his writing career with articles and stories about backgammon. Currently, he has written two books and over four hundred articles on the game. He also co-wrote the screenplay for a kickboxing movie, Ring of Fire. His story “Killing Grandpa” was included in AMW’s anthology A Way With Murder. After moving to Tucson, wrote his mystery novel, The Battered Butterfly.
In 2004 Jake was offered a “three-month” job placing bets on horses in Japan. In 2020, when the temporary job finally ended, he was living in Singapore, and had somehow acquired a wife, a daughter, and a Chihuahua. He moved them all to Tucson (in the middle of Covid).
These days Jake is semi-retired, though he still plays in a few backgammon tournaments each year, and is wearing out his welcome with the Arizona sportsbooks.
If you've considered adding a gambler to your character list, or just want to learn more about the gamblin' life, get your questions ready for Jake. From Kathmandu to Peoria, Illinois, from backgammon to horseracing, Jake's a font of info on gambling.
We'll meet LIVE at The "L" Offices, 1840 E. River Road. We'll provide coffee and tea.
The meeting will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with time for catching up from 11:30 to noon.
Costs for members is $10, $15 for non-members. Bring extra cash for the book raffle. Raffle proceeds help offset the meeting room costs. Should you have books to donate, bring them as well.
