February 9th meeting (CHANGE IN LOCATION): Tucson’s Crime History; Essentials of Mystery Writing

CHANGE IN MEETING LOCATION FOR FEBRUARY: Because of the Gem Show, we are meeting at U-Like Buffet, which is just north of River Road on Oracle (where the Hometown Buffet used to be).  The restaurant has told us we cannot bring coffee as we’ve done in the past, so there will be no coffee service for the first hour (until the restaurant makes it). If you need your coffee, please bring a commuter mug of it for yourself.

Tucson may seem like a quiet town, but beneath the surface lurks a sordid history. Please join us in welcoming Rhema Sayers, who will be regaling us with the stories of the very real crimes and criminals who stabbed and shot their way to fame, or rather notoriety, from the 1880s to the present in and around this place we call home.

We’ll have a delicious lunch, and a fun book drawing.

In our afternoon session, mystery writer and writing instructor Michael M. Alvarez will present “What Every Mystery Writer Needs to Know.”  He will cover reader expectations, series characters, doing good research before writing, literary agents, and the four ways to publish your mystery story or novel.

RSVP by 9:30 am, Wednesday, February 6th to save your place. $30 non-members includes lunch. $25 RSVP’d AMW (not Meetup) members. Pay at the door. RSVP by clicking the button on http://www.meetup.com/Arizona-Mystery-Writers-of-Tucson/ or email amwmembershipchair@gmail.com. See you there!

Announcement 1: If you have not paid your dues ($25), please pay them at the February meeting – otherwise you will be paying the non-member price for February.

Announcement 2: Tucson Festival of Books: If you have printouts of book covers you would like us to use in decorating our booth, please bring them to the February meeting! And if you’d like to volunteer at our booth, talk to Jane to get a time slot.

Reminder: Our prices are $25 for RSVP’d AMW members, $30 non-members.
