October 10th Meeting: Blood Spatter; The Size of an Idea

A couple of additional notes for this month:

1) We will be at the All-Zona Book Fest on October 18! If you would like us to have your swag (bookmarks etc.) at our table, please bring it to the October meeting.

2) Our December meeting’s afternoon segment is Celebration of the Written Word, an opportunity for our members to do a short reading of their work. If you would like to read, please let Kay, our Speaker Chair, know.

Now, on to the meeting announcement….

What can blood spatter tell an investigator? Join us in welcoming retired PCSD Captain Oscar R. Miranda, who will instruct us on the evidentiary value associated with bloodstain interpretation and the importance of proper documentation, including a discussion on stain and flow patterns associated with some gunshot wounds. Miranda has facilitated college courses in Crime Scene Management and Criminal Justice Administration at the University of Phoenix and Pima Community College for over 15 years.

We’ll have a delicious lunch, and a fun book drawing.

One of the challenges we have as writers is to first find a good idea to use for our writing. And then the real work begins: is the idea suitable for a short story or a novel? In the afternoon session, AMW member and author Mike Alvarez will give us tips on how to determine whether a story idea works only as a short piece, or if it can be expanded and used for a novel.

RSVP by 9:30 am, Wednesday, October 7th to save your place. $25 non-members includes lunch. $20 RSVP’d members. Pay at the door. RSVP by clicking the button on http://www.meetup.com/Arizona-Mystery-Writers-of-Tucson/, email amwmembershipchair@gmail.com or call our Membership Chair, Beverly Collins, at 520-433-0738.
